Departmental Requirements for Degree

Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing Program (AASN)

At its November 21, 2019 meeting, the TSU Board of Trustees approved the TSU administration's request to discontinue the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) program. As a result of this action, applications are no longer being accepted for the AASN program. The program will graduate its last class Spring 2021. Please monitor the website for updates related to the BSN program. All programs remain approved and accredited. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Maria Revell, Interim Executive Director, at 615-963-5251.

STUDENT SELECTION PROCESS

The Admission Committee will consider students who have submitted completed application materials postmarked before the deadline date. Applications received after the deadline date are considered on a space available basis. Students who are not admitted must re-apply in order to be considered for the next academic year. Students who meet admission criteria are ranked for selection for the upcoming class. The order of selection for applications postmarked before the deadline is as follows:

Cumulative GPA on all college work or cumulative high school GPA if no college courses have been completed at the time of application.
Scores on the pre-admission entrance examination.
If more that one applicant has identical ranking scores, applicants will be randomly selected.

Qualified applicants who are not initially accepted will be placed on a waiting list and will be added to the class if space becomes available up until the first day of class. All waiting lists expire the first day of class.

ACCEPTED STUDENTS

Students must return their acceptance form by the date listed in the letter to assure their space in the class. Students who do not return the acceptance form by the date listed in the letter, will be removed from the admission list. Students must complete the required School of Nursing orientation.

Students who are admitted must have a health examination which indicates satisfactory health and the required immunizations, titers, and insurance before starting nursing courses. Students must show evidence of current Healthcare Provider BLS training and liability insurance in order to attend clinical nursing classes. Documentation of each of these required materials must be submitted to the AASN Program office no later than July 1. Failure to meet the July 1 deadline will result in loss of admission to the program.

A drug screen and criminal background check, including both the state and federal level, are requirements for student placement within clinical agencies. Based on the results of these checks, an affiliated clinical agency or site may determine to not allow a student's presence at their facility. This could result in your inability to successfully complete the requirements of the nursing program. Additionally, a criminal background may preclude licensure or employment.
